The importance of self-care

As much as I love having fun and being spontaneous I also equally love self-care and forming routines.

A few years back I became really big on self-care and forming boundaries around this area of my life. It was truly life-changing for me to become more intentional in this area of my life.

Here are some things that I do to keep a sane mind, body, and spirit amidst a crazy busy life.

1. I formed a morning routine

This is essential to my emotional, mental and physical well- being. Here is a blog post that I wrote all about my morning routine. (

Essentially, I wake up, make coffee (duh) take vitamins, read my bible, journal, pray, think and dream (about the day & future) and work out (most mornings of the week). I take a ton of vitamins and make sure to start the day with a healthy meal.

I pick out my outfit the night before and make sure that my morning makeup and hair routine is minimal in order to achieve all of these things and keep my sanity. I could go on and on about this but that’s enough for now 😉

2. Developing hobbies

When I find myself with any spare time I pick one of my hobbies and run with it. I draw, play the guitar, write, longboard, workout.  Flexing my creative muscles helps me to relax and ease my mind. If you don’t have hobbies, find one.

3. I go on silent retreats

A silent retreat doesn’t mean you have to go away for a whole weekend and spend lots of money. I do half day silent retreats all the time. I have a few go to places where my soul feels at rest . I’ll go and read, journal, dream, pray, and re-center myself. It’s a time of being alone, and not having my cell phone. It’s magical, you should try it sometime.

4. Hangout with the right family and friends

For me personally hanging out with the right types of people can be a form of self-care. People that hear you, know you and can speak to your soul are invaluable and time with them is so essential for your well-being.

5. I reserve my Friday mornings for me time.

I am really lucky to have Fridays off so Friday mornings are reserved for me to get my mind right. I do what I need to do in order to rest, recover and regain energy. It honestly looks different every week depending on what I need but every week is centered around making myself better.
