“The heart of the matter is a matter of the heart.”
Bobby O’Conner.
A while back I heard this quote and it’s stuck with me ever since. I’ve thought about it quit often and it’s made me examine myself a lot. Here are some of my thoughts on it….
Everything comes from the heart. Your actions, words and deeds overflow from it. So if your heart is beautiful everything you do will inevitably be beautiful. And vice versa.
Think about how much time and money we (I) spend and invest on external things, while sometimes neglecting and forgetting about the heart. While I don’t want to neglect external things, I want my main priority to be on what’s going to last and shine through the ages, my heart and spirit.
I hate to be the barer of bad news but the way you look right now isn’t going to last forever. You are going to age and your external beauty isn’t going to be the first thing that people notice anymore. When my external beauty begins to fade I want my internal beauty to continue to shine through.
Things that are ignored and neglected become ugly and often times unruly. But when things are given attention and care, they flourish. I want my heart to flourish because I am nourishing and investing in it.
Your looks are inherited but you work to have a beautiful heart. That’s why it’s always nicer for someone to say that you are hilarious, hardworking, or an amazing person then for someone to tell you that you that they like your face, etc. At least most of the time it is….face compliments are nice sometimes too (LOL). As a general rule, it’s always more rewarding to be praised for things that you worked hard to earn versus things you were given. You can’t take credit for the way you look (apart from plastic surgery) but you can take credit for the person that you have tried to become.
When you get to the end of your life, while your physical beauty might be remembered and commented on to an extent, your heart and spirit will always be remembered and are REALLY what count. It’s what shines through time, inspires and leaves a powerful mark on the world.
